Waking up in the morning with neck or back ache can often mean that the pillow you are sleeping on is too hard or too soft.

A persons preference differs from one to the next. Some people like their bedding pillows to be firm and supportive while others prefer a pillow with a soft and fluffy feel to it. This decision really comes to down to the way you sleep at night.

Before you purchase your new bedding pillow, look at how you sleep. Do you sleep on your back, side or front, or a combination of all three positions? How does your neck and back feel when you wake up?

There are a wide range of different types of bedding pillow all which give varying levels of firmness. They are;

Goose Down Feather Pillows or Duck Feather Pillows – For a medium to soft feel.

Microfibre Pillows and Hollowfibre Pillows – For a medium to firm feel.

Memory Foam Pillows  -For a supportive firm feel.

Goose Down Pillows

Goose or duck down feathered pillows are renowned for their ultimate luxurious feel. The delicate yet substantial feathered filling offers a medium to soft feel that adjusts itself to the contours of the neck and spine.

Warm pockets of air are trapped by the soft down which gives the pillow that lightweight airy feel you can really sink into while still offering support exactly where it is needed.

Micro Fibre Pillows

Allergies can be a nightmare when you are trying to sleep. If you or any member of your family suffer from any allergy or asthma, natural filling like down and feather is definitely a no go.

Micro Fibre pillows are made from a highly compressed synthetic fibre that has an air pocket running through the length of it. The material is as warm and comfortable as goose down pillows as the air is pumped into each fibre during the spinning process, however microfibre pillows are highly breathable and have a more economical price tag.

Hollow Fibre Pillows

Hollow Fibre is a hypoallergenic material which is very light and fluffy. The pillow gives a light to medium firm feel to the pillow and is perfect for asthma sufferers and children as it is completely man made and non-allergenic. The bonus about hollow fibre pillows is that they are generally better at maintaining their shape and loft than natural fill pillows are.

Memory Foam Pillows

Memory Foam Pillows were the original answer for people who suffer from neck and back problems. The bedding pillows give a firm and supportive feel as well as being very comfortable to sleep on.

Memory Foam was used by astronauts in space and is an amazing material that spreads out evenly whenever pressure is applied to it. The material is heat sensitive and will shape itself to your body no matter which way you lie. If you move around a lot in your sleep the foam will gradually return to its original shape and conform to your new sleeping position.

Memory foam pillows are said to help people who suffer with insomnia, sleep apnea and other sleep disorders.

Your home should be your castle, except when you are allergic to it. Your bedroom should be your haven, except when you are sneezing throughout the night.

The bedroom is proven to be the most allergy prone room in the house.

We recommend the first thing you should do is to put all hypoallergenic casings on your bedding pillows, mattresses or memory foam toppers.

Or go on to hollow fibre pillows a great way to beat the allergies. Polyester –filled, there are no mites in hollow fibre pillows and it is health risk free making it perfect for people who suffer with allergies.

Hypoallergenic pillows and bedding are synthetic filled and have the ability to be washed at 60°C, compressing well into a domestic washing machine.

Both the micro fibre pillows and bedding can be washed time and time again and will remain hypoallergenic without the lost of comfort.

Or you could choose Hollow fibre pillows which may be dressed in bed linen only and protects it from the dirt. The pillow may also be washed in temperatures of up to 60°C.

Dust mites can live in bedding pillows, all types of mattresses including, memory foam mattresses, memory foam mattress toppers and duvets which can cause a person to have a restless sleep.

If you purchase bedding products, such as microfibre pillows, the microfibre is woven into dense covers that do not allow the dustmites to escape and bother the allergy sufferer.

Microfibre has made a massive difference to the lives of those with allergies. Bedding pillows, mattress protectors, mattress toppers made with microfibre exteriors have reduced the problems for those allergic to dust mites significantly.

When decorating your room it is often difficult to decide what colour to go for and what colours work best with each other to make the room complimentary and comfortable.

From the bedding pillows to the carpet, everything has to match and look good against each other. We decided to look for rooms that really didn’t think about two-tone or mixing colours and just stayed to one colour throughout.

Red Room

This red room is in The Madonna In in San Obispo, California and it is named the Tack Room…we can see why!

White Room

As lovely as this room is, it isn’t really practical to have it all white! You wouldn’t let anyone in!

Pink Room

Now we can be a bit lenient with pink, especially when it comes to little girls but this is just a little bit too far!

Black Room

I really don’t think that adding white bedding pillows to this room counts as a two-colour bedroom. It is all black and rather scary looking.

Do you sleep next to the worst snorer in the world? At night do you actually begin to hate the person you are meant to love the most because they are keeping you awake all night?

Well if this the case for their birthday, christmas, the dogs birthday because it’s Tuesday (any day is a celebration if it stops their snoring!) buy them this technological anti-snoring bedding pillow.

A professor in computer science at the University of Rostock has designed a “computerised pillow that shifts the head’s sleeping position until the noise stops”

snoring-pillow

The prototype was first exhibited at a health conference in Germany where onlookers said the pillow is attached to a computer which is the size of a book. The computer rests on the side of the bedside table and analyses snoring noises.

Air compartments within the pillow can be enlarged as needed “to facilitate nasal airflow and minimise snoring.”

Not only this, the anti-snoring bedding pillows have been designed to give neck massages as well.

German scientist, Daryoush Bazargani who invented the pillow, said that several U.S. firms were interested in manufacturing the pillow.

“I invented it because I snore,” he said. “I tried all sorts of products, but nothing worked. I hope people who use it will sleep more peacefully.”

Now as creative and inventive as this pillow may sound, there is definitely no ‘pleasing on the eye factor’ to that delightful supposed “book-shaped” computer which is meant to sit nicely on your bed side table with a tube sticking out of it.

Verdict: Practical but not aesthetically pleasing.

At Duvet and Pillow Warehouse we appreciate that there is a wide range of bedding pillows for you to choose from and for anyone with allergies, making the wrong choice may have a big impact on your health and bank balance.

If you suffer from asthma, eczema and rhinitis, the common trigger is the house mite dust allergen.  You may not be able to see them but house mites can be found in your mattresses, pillows, carpets, bedding, furniture, clothing and anywhere else they can feed on dead flakes of human skin.

And duvets and bedding pillows are a house mite’s haven, as they thrive of dark humid areas where there is a ready supply of food.

It is almost impossible to completely eliminate the mites from your home, however they can be killed and their allergen destroyed if you wash your bedding at 60°C and above.

At Duvet and Pillow Warehouse we recommend the following:

Micro Fibre pillows and bedding are synthetic filled and have the ability to be washed at 60°C, compressing well into a domestic washing machine.

Both the micro fibre pillows and bedding can be washed time and time again and will remain hypoallergenic without the lost of comfort.

Another good way to beat those allergies would be to invest in hollow fibre pillows and bedding. Polyester –filled, there are no mites in hollow fibre pillows and it is health risk free making it perfect for people who suffer with allergies.

Hollow fibre pillows may be dressed in bed linen only, which protects it from the dirt. The pillow may also be washed in temperatures of up to 60°C.
