This is especially the case with regards to getting your-self back into the routine of waking up early and going to bed at a reasonable time.

So you can imagine that this might be a tad little bit harder for those grumbling adolescents who want to sleep in all day and do nothing.

Here are some top sleeping tips for parents and your teenagers living at home, to avoid the annoying effort of trying to drag them out every morning.

Talk to your kid about the importance of sleep and the need for at least eight hours’ of sleep on school nights.

Encourage regular exercise; at least 20 minutes three times a week will help them fall asleep better.

Suggest a reduction of caffeine intake that means drinking fewer fizzy drinks such as coke as well as coffee.

Show them that eating too much or too little close to bedtime can an over fill or empty the stomach which prevents sleep onset, or causes discomfort throughout the night.

A bed routine, doing the same things in the same order before going to sleep every night, can help sleep patterns.

Have a good sleep environment: a room that is dark, cool, quiet, safe and comfortable makes a relaxing atmosphere.

A comfortable bed is extremely important to a good night’s rest as is fresh clean bedding.

As well as a bed mattress and bedding, a good quality Duvet and Pillow ensure a peaceful sleep.

It has been reported that habits learned in adolescence often become lifetime habits; so make sure good sleep habits are learned early with value-for-money Goose down quilts at Duvet and Pillow Warehouse.

David Davies, Conservative MP for Monmouth, has been sleeping on a blow-up mattress in his parliamentary office after failing to find an overnight stay near Westminster for less than the £130 allowance limit.

He has instead used his expenses to buy a £60 airbed and £15 duvet which he uses during the working week.

Mr Davies estimates that if he could buy a £500 bed and stay in the Commons on every overnight stay, he would save the taxpayer £80,000.

But he is only allowed to stay in his office occasionally because of Parliamentary Authority health and safety rules.

What Mr Davies needs is a nice comfortable Memory foam pillow, Goose down duvet and Goose down quilts.

Experts on the Animal and Welfare (AHAW) Panel said that under current commercial conditions, plucking feathers, a way of collecting feathers, is unavoidable.

They recommend that a control system should be put in place to ensure that only moulting feathers are gathered from live geese.

The Working Group made use of information provided by stakeholders during a meeting held in May earlier this year; with experts from the feathers industry, in addition to information collected through a Public Consultation.

Findings from the opinion point out that brushing or combing live geese to collect moulting feathers causes no tissue damage, whereas pulling feathers out will result in pain. However, as different parts of the body moult at different times, some feathers may be unavoidably plucked when brushing and combing techniques are used.

Only feathers at the appropriate moulting phase should be gathered and that welfare-outcome indicators be put in place to ensure this is carried out in practice, such as by checking for the presence of skin tears or tissue on the feathers.

The main recommendation is that only ripe feathers should be removed from live geese. A control system should be in place to ensure this is carried out in practice or, alternatively, feathers should be removed by the person using a brushing or combing procedure so that only ripe feathers can be gathered. Grasping of feathers should be avoided.

Suffering should be avoided or minimised when catching and handling the geese, and geese should never be carried by the neck, legs or by one wing, be thrown or dropped, or be restrained by sitting on the neck or body of the bird. Operators should be aware of good animal handling methods and the differentiation between ripe and unripe feathers.

A good rest refills your energy levels, ensures your body revitalises and most importantly allows your conscience to dream.

Dreaming, otherwise known as ‘Rapid Eye Movement’, is essential for your mind to recharge the batteries, and a lack of it is a sign that you have a personality disorder.

Here are some interesting facts about dreaming…

1. In an average lifetime, you spend a total of six years of it dreaming. That is more than 2,100 days.

2. Everybody dreams. Simply because you do not remember your dream does not mean that you do not dream. You have several dreams during a normal night of sleep.

3. Dreams are indispensable. A lack of dream activity may imply some protein deficiency or a personality disorder.

4. On average, you can dream anywhere from one to two hours every night. Moreover, you can have four to seven dreams in one night.

5. Blind people do dream.

6. Five minutes after the end of the dream, half the content is forgotten. After ten minutes, 90 per cent is lost.

7. Men tend to dream more about other men, while women dream equally about men and women.

8. Studies have shown that your brain waves are more active when you are dreaming than when you are awake.

9. People who are in the process of giving up smoking tend to have longer and more intense dreams.

10. Toddlers do not dream about themselves. They do not appear in their own dreams until the age of three or four.

11. If you are snoring, then you are not dreaming.

12. In a poll, 67 per cent of Americans have experienced Deja Vu in their dreams, occurring more often in females than males.

13. According to a research study, the most common setting for a dream is your own house.

For a peaceful night sleep, quality Goose down duvet and Goose down quilts are the best option at Duvet and Pillow Warehouse.

The tossing and turning; getting up and pacing your bedroom or putting a film on; but nothing works.

No matter how sleepy you are, for some reason you just can’t shut your eyes and dream.

So here are some top tips to get a good rested night sleep…

- Bath Before Bedtime

A hot bath can be a great remedy for sleeplessness! You might think that raising this temperature in a hot bath is what triggers your body into feeling sleepy but in fact, it is the cooling down that occurs when you get out of the bath that makes you sleepy. If you’re having trouble sleeping, try having a warm bubble bath about an hour before bedtime.

- Insomnia

Insomnia is in which a person has very erratic sleeping patterns. Hundreds of people in the UK struggle with the condition and once the body is in the irregular pattern, it can be very hard to break.

Sleep restriction therapy is one potential method, in which you spend less time in the bedroom. The aim of this treatment is to make the subject so tired that their body will be forced to re-establish a normal sleeping pattern.

- The Art Of Napping

Napping is a fantatic way of boosting energy levels, and no matter what people say you are never too old to nap. Naps are most effective when taken in the afternoon between two and five and the best nap duration is 30 minutes. Apparently, your body will naturally resist attempts to nap between seven and twelve o’clock in the morning, and between six and eight o’clock in the evening.

- How to Stop Snoring

It’s estimated that 15 million Britons snore. It can be linked to serious health conditions and as it can affect the sleep of more than just the sufferer, it can have a negative effect on relationships. It is due to the muscles controlling our airways relaxing, causing the air passage to narrow. As a result, when we breathe the soft tissues in the mouth, nose and throat vibrate, which we then hear as snoring. Nose strips can be used to help the problem. Alternatively, mouth guards can prevent the tongue from falling to the back of the mouth.

- Don’t Mess With Your Sleep Cycle

A good night’s rest is usually an indicator that the body has undergone five specific stages of sleep, drowsy, drop off to sleep, deep sleep and Rapid Eye Movement. The best way to ensure you have the right mixture of sleep stages is to avoid caffeine and alcohol before sleeping, as they can distort the natural sleep pattern, and ensure that you sleep for between seven and nine hours every night.

- Eat To Sleep

Did you know that different types of food can affect how you sleep? Meals rich in carbohydrates set off a chain reaction which makes us sleepy. Food examples include pasta, bread, rice and bananas. However, eating proteins has the opposite effect to carbs, making us feel more alert. Examples are milk, cheese, yoghurt and fish. A protein meal at lunch may well prevent you from dropping off in the afternoon, and a carb-heavy meal in the evening should help you sleep.

- Relaxation

One simple but effective method to wind down and fall asleep is to repeatedly tense and relax your muscles shortly before going to bed. The whole exercise should last for about 15 minutes and leave you feeling a lot more relaxed and ready to sleep.

- Herbal Remedies

Herbs like lavender and plant extracts like valerian root are natural sleep inducers. Lavender can be used to make a herbal tea, although studies indicate that it is the smell of lavender that helps people to sleep, rather than the ingredients.

If you are struggling to get a good nights sleep, visit Duvet and Pillow Warehouse for the most comfortable luxurious quality pillows and duvets, you can be sure to nod off.

The living room pillow has a built-in infrared LED to make itself a six-in-one universal control, with codes for over 500 remote control devices.

Powered by a pair of AAA batteries, the pillow remote even features an auto-shut-off function to save energy.

But I’m guessing it might hurt you (and break the remote) if this bad boy was whacked over your head. So no pillow fights.

The pillow remote, which would be really difficult to get lost unlike normal remotes do, has sewn-in fabric buttons to change channels, adjust the volume and access a DVD player.

It could be said to be the best Christmas present ever for lazy people and couch potatoes; although we’re still trying to work out how if you fall asleep on it, it doesn’t change channels or switch itself on and off?

For quality luxurious duvets and pillows (that you can have pillow fights with), visit Duvet and Pillow Warehouse.co.uk today.

Revealed during an inspection, the attacks also known as ‘sheeting’, which were recorded on a number of occasions, have been condemned by the Chief Inspector of Prisons Nick Harwick as “serious bullying” which must stop.

It has been revealed that a young vulnerable man came forward and described how he was being tied up inside a duvet cover and ‘battered’ every night.

Mr Hardwick told the BBC: “A prisoner was forcibly put inside a duvet cover and the opening knotted so that he could not release himself while perpetrators carried out random acts of violence.

“Prisoners told us that it was common and we met a number of young people who had clearly been victimised in this way.

“We were concerned that for a small minority of prisoners, it was not at all safe and in some cases, prison officers on the wings had a passive attitude to bullying and unexplained injuries – however good the policies,” he added.

According to the report Forest Bank, a privately-run prison for adult and young adult men, had 1,424 inmates at the time of the inspection between June 29 and July 9.

The A1 wing was where most of the incidents of sheeting took place and inmates identified “serious concerns about their safety”, the inspectors said.

Now the chief inspector has called for the prison which is one of the largest jails in the UK, to investigate “the actual level of violence and bullying on A1 wing, use this information to inform the anti-bullying strategy, and work actively with prisoners to eradicate sheeting”.

Michael Spurr, Chief executive officer of the National Offender Management Service (NOMS), said: “The issues about safety for some prisoners are however, a concern and they are now being urgently addressed by the director and his senior managers.”

The Sleep Council surveyed people for National Sleep-In Day, on October 31, and found;

• Six out of 10 people plan to spend the extra hour on Sunday enjoying a lie-in
• More than one in three people admitted to ‘throwing a sicky’ – often to spend extra time in bed
• Given a lazy day in bed men would spend it having sex, while women would prefer to just read
• Nearly half those questioned would actually pay to spend a lazy day in bed

National Results
- 45 per cent of people would pay to have a day off work to spend a lazy day in bed.
- 36 per cent of people have taken sick days when they could have gone in to work.
- 25 per cent of people only sleep in once a month.
- 60 per centof people will have a lie in when the clocks go back this weekend.

In fact, some will go to almost any lengths to do so to have a day off work. Polled results said they’d be prepared to pay anything up to and over £100 for a lazy day between the bedsheets.

A whopping 36 per cent admitted they’d phone in and fib and ‘throw a sicky’ – often to spend extra time in bed.

Those in the 16 – 24 age group were the number one offenders with nearly six out of 10 admitting they’d taken time off sick when they were really well enough to go in to work. People aged 55 and over are the least likely to do that with nearly four out of five saying they had not blagged any time off ill.

Of all those polled, 24 per cent said they’d lied feeling unwell to have a lie-in and didn’t feel guilty. And 34 per cent of men were much more likely than women (19 per cent) to say this.

No surprise then, that when asked what they would like to do with the extra hour this year, six out of 10 respondents said they’d use it to have a lie in.

Jessica Alexander of The Sleep Council, said: “It’s clear from this survey that a lot of people want to spend a lot more time in their beds.

“A luxurious day in bed with no work, no pressure and no hassles is seen as a real indulgence.

The Sleep Council ‘Bed Time’ survey was conducted online by Opinion Matters, between September 24th and October 11th 2010 among a sample of 1040 working respondents.

If you are enjoy your sleep, make sure your bedding isn’t giving you a hard time and visit Duvet and Pillow Warehouse today, the online duvet store who stock thousands of bedding products for your needs and requirements.
