Over the last year, sales of full-length night garments have soared by 30 per cent, according to a new survey.
Sales of women’s pyjama’s have trebled in the past decade from £32 million to £93 million.
And men’s pyjama sales have gone up from £22 million to £33 million in the past decade, with a huge boom in the past year.
“We’ve definitely seen an increased demand for men’s pyjama’s over the last year,” says David Binns of Marks and Spencers.
“Classic cotton pyjama’s are always firm favourites, but most of our customers now tend to go for more contemporary jersey options- T-shirts, draw cord style, long and short-leg bottoms-to rest, relax and sleep in.”
And part of the reason people have been buying pjyama’s is due to the credit crunch. People are spending more time at home, relaxing around the house while keeping warm at the same time.
Many people are purchasing some of their very own pj’s in a bid to keep warm and reduce the heating bills.
“Last year, we didn’t turn the heating on until mid-November,” says David Cameron’s wife Samantha. “We had hot-water bottles and extra blankets, and the children wore proper pyjamas and slippers.”
