There are many celebrities in Hollywood who have been labelled as divas which according to the Urban Dictionary, the word is defined as; a bitchy woman that must have her way exactly and will do anything to get what she wants.

A diva is often rude and belittles people, believes that everyone is beneath her and is selfish, spoiled, and overly dramatic.

So it is no surprise to here that many divas in the music and acting industry only have the finest quality bedding products in their luxury homes. They can afford the best materials and expensive items and because of this, many of them will probably only sleep on a Goose down duvet or Goose down quilts.

They have all the money in the world and such a lavish lifestyle that it makes sense to install some deluxe lush inside the home too. Reportedly, the top biggest divas in Hollywood who would scream the house down if they didn’t catch some zzzzz’s on premium fabric include Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Brown, Madonna and Paris Hilton.

- Mariah Carey

The diva singer has demanded many requests in her career and has attracted many headlines over the years for her diva-ish ways. She once insisted on a red carpet lined with 2ft high white candles at 2:30am and on another occasion she arrived one hour late after breaking a nail. What is more, she once demanded eight cars and two bungalows whilst making a film; reasonable?

- Jennifer Lopez

This diva singer wanted a white room with white flowers, white table, white table cloth, white drapes and white candles when playing an Aids benefit. She has previously arrived to set with 75 aides including a coat-handler and specialist eyebrow assistant; and she insists on 250-thread cotton sheets.

- Paris Hilton

Heiress and socialite Paris Hilton showed how much of a spoiled princess she is when making a lot of diva demands when shooting her small part in the film “The Other Guys”. Despite the role only being a cameo the producers were left gobsmacked when her team handed them a three-page list of demands including live lobsters to be prepared fresh when she’s ready to eat and a bottle of Grey Goose vodka.

New research has revealed that we actually store sleep up in advance of a tiring event.

Researchers in the US monitored the effects of a group of volunteers, who adjusted their sleep patterns.

For one week, one half of the group were allowed extra sleep while the others were told to keep their sleeping patterns the same.

Tests showed those who had banked sleep were “more resilient during the sleep restriction”. The experiment revealed that their alertness and reaction time would be deteriorated.

“What we’re basically saying is if you fill up your reserves and pay back your sleep debt ahead of time, you’re better equipped to deal with the sleep loss challenge,” explained Tracy Rupp from the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.

British people are finding it difficult to fall asleep each night and have been advised by experts to deal with their stress levels in order to combat the problem.

The Sleep Council has said that stress is an inhibitor to getting a good night’s sleep as it does not allow the brain to switch off.

Jessica Alexander, a spokeswoman for the organisation explained that the body needs to relax and wind down in order to be able to fall asleep. She also added that sleep techniques which help people to relax can reduce insomnia.

“There are many ways but it is about what works best for you - everyone is different. Some people meditate, but the old case of counting sheep is based on good reasoning, ” Ms Alexander said.

“You do something so mundane and boring and it can block out other thoughts. Just don’t end up in bed and worry about not sleeping – that is the worst thing.”

Scientists at the University of Warwick published a report last month, suggesting that people who get less than six hours’ sleep a night are 12 per cent more likely to die prematurely than those who sleep between six and eight hours.”

Bedding pillows are often dismissed when it comes to buying furniture and accessories for the bedroom. Most people generally focus on the mattress, bed base and duvet cover and even headboard.

Forgetting your pillow is a crazy idea. Without a decent pillow you probably wont get that good night’s sleep. And we are not being dramatic when we say that. In fact your choice of mattress and pillows is closely linked to your overall health and well being.

An unsuitable pillow can cause general tiredness through lack of sleep, medical complaints such as neck, shoulder and upper back pains. If you are having these problems, then it really is time to change your pillow before you do more damage to your health.

There are a wide range of pillows available and choosing the right one to suit you can be difficult. Some of the most common types of pillows are:

  • Synthetic fibre-filled pillows: often called hollow fibre. These pillows are not expensive and come in a variety of firmness levels, covering most people’s comfort preferences. They are also great for people who are allergic to certain natural materials, however the hollow fibre pillow has a tendency to bunch up after a relatively short period of time, losing their overall shape.
  • Down or feather-filled pillows: a traditional luxury or possibly the most high quality choice. These types of pillows give high levels of softness and comfort. Due to there extreme levels of softness their down-filled pillows are not for everyone and require careful daily airing or ‘plumping’ to maintain their performance every time.
  • Memory foam pillows: Same as a memory foam mattress providing body-moulding support. There are a lot of cheaper versions online that say they are memory foam but are in fact low quality foams that don’t offer the same performance either immediately or long term.
  • Orthopedic pillow: Designed to provide support to different parts of the head, neck and body. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes including ‘L’ shaped or cylindrical forms. Usually made from synthetic or memory foam based.
