cricketNottinghamshire County Cricket Club have hired a sleep coach to improve the performance of the cricketers on the field.

The team-who finished as County Championship runners up for the second year in a row-have hired sleep expert Nick Littlehales to help them learn how to have rested sleep before and after they play.

Littlehales is the managing director of Sleep Athlete and has previously worked with England’s footballers and Olympic Athletes.

Littlehales has over 25 years experience in the world of sleeping habits and product design and he told Sky Sports News that his expertise “should help for a more productive season [for the Notts cricketers].”

Notts captain, Chris Read, believes that the sleep therapy will have a “big part to play in cricket” and also added that the club are considering using sleep products during a match.

Littlehales said, “Some of the products like mattress toppers and pillows, and duvets will travel with [the players] to improve the environment where they are staying.”

We think that this sports team are heading to a great success as sleep is so important to keep yourself healthy and on top form.

The bedding you sleep on will also benefit your sleep at night, so customers need to make sure that they know what type of bedding makes them feel the most comfortable.

At Duvet and Pillow Warehouse, they have a wide range of different bedding, from the luxury feather pillow to the soft and scrumptious duvet, in stock for you tou buy and have dispatched today.

log-pillowIf you work from home or spend endless nights on your laptop each night then you may want to take a look at these cool log pillows on the web.

The log pillow makes your laptop feel comfortable snuggled in its own bed while you relax on your bed or the couch typing and chatting away.

The Log Pillow consists of six fabric tubes criss-crossed log-cabin style and attached with snaps.

The ‘logs’ are made from a mix of hemp canvas, cotton, and Lycra and filled with buckwheat hulls. The design is meant to cause better ventilation and keep heat from building up at the bottom of your laptop. The log pillow also fold flat for transporting.

Possibly not the most attractive looking cushions to have around your house, but definitely practical. We can see that side of things!

However you don’t really consider a laptop as needing much comfort during the night. Instead it should be the person using the laptop that should be comfortable. If you agree with us, why not take a look at the fabulous feather pillows, memory foam pillows etc we have in stock at Duvet and Pillow Warehouse.

making-the-bedRecent reports have revealed that a lone man tragically died the other week while attempting to change a duvet cover.

The man, who is not married and does not live with his parents, is thought to not only live alone but to have been alone at the time of the incident.

It has been said that the man from Gonerby Village, Lincs, was already near exhaustion as he had washed the very same duvet cover just that very afternoon.

A spokeswoman for the Women’s Institute is thought to have said that men should not attempt this kind of operation without strict supervision.

Feathered pillows have been around for centuries but do you think that one deserves to be in your home?

We at Duvet and Pillow Warehouse have compiled a list of advantages and disadvantages about feathered pillows and whether they will be of use to you.

Advantages

Feather pillows are known for being soft, cuddly and flexible. They mould to your head and neck reasonably well and provide more support than down. The pillows are also designed to provide head and neck support where and when you need it by scrunching up the pillow into a position that suits you.

They are known as the most durable pillows around and will last for many years with reasonable care. Feathered pillows can usually be machine washed or dried. They are considered a strong value because they often last so long.

Feather pillows weigh very little, in fact they usually weigh no more than a pound or two.

Disadvantages

After a while feather pillows can sink to some degree and don’t often maintain significant support throughout the night.

From this, you many find that you are constantly adjusting the pillow, fluffing and shaking it during the night.

The hard quills of the feathers can often be noticed through the case and can sometimes poke through. You many also notice a crunching-like noise when the pillows are compressed because the feathers can contain hard parts or because the pillows have a plastic layer to prevent the feathers from poking through.

Also, feather pillows are known to have an odour due to the chemicals used to sanitise the feathers.

Different positions you sleep in will affect the amount of pressure that is put onto your joints, you need to take into consideration the position you mostly sleep in and if you will benefit from a memory foam mattress or a memory foam topper.

If you sleep on your side a lot, you place a heavy amount of pressure in your shoulder and hips, and if you sleep on your stomach you are adding pressure to your neck.

A visco-elastic pressure sensitive memory foam mattress will work the best for you and provide you with the best chance of reducing the overall pressure placed on the joints, this is done by contouring them and pushing against them as you lay on the mattress.

Latex is sometimes added to memory foam that will offer more spring against parts of your body such as the small of your back or yours sides, without losing the ability to contour and displace pressure points.

The duvet and pillow warehouse can help your achy joints by providing you all the information you need about why and how a memory foam mattress or a memory foam topper can help you,  and then advising you which would be most suitable.

Sleeping on the wrong mattress can cause a great deal of pain to the muscles and joints in your body without you even realising. A mattress is there to give you support and to reinforce poor sleeping posture, strained muscles and keep the spine in alignment, which if not supported can contribute to low back pain.

It is also important to consider a mattress that meets your individual preferences. You may need a mattress that supports your lower back or a mattress that is hypoallergenic to help your allergies.

Whatever your needs and requirements, we have come up with top 12 tips to buying the perfect mattress for you.

1. Research online before going shopping

There is a lot of information online which tells you different information about different types of mattresses and can often leave you in a pickle about where to go next. Make sure that when you are looking for information you visit trusted websites (like this blog!) or health websites such as Spine Health which can help you find reliable information before shopping for your mattress.

2. Speak to your doctor

If you suffer from a medical condition it may be a good idea to speak to your doctor before you buy your mattress. Doctors aren’t generally sleep experts but will have a good idea about what needs and requirements your medical condition needs to get the right comfort and support while you sleep.

3. Firm Mattresses aren’t always the best for your back

Think about how you sleep and what you need when it comes to a good nights sleep. People assume that a firm mattress is the way forward to improving posture, but every person is different and it is important to make sure that you buy a mattress to suit your needs and requirements.

Make sure you are aware there is a difference between firm support and firm feel. You want a firm support but a comfortable feel and comfortable is determined by what works for YOU!

You may like the idea of a memory foam mattress topper a more affordable version of a full memory foam mattress. The memory foam topper lies on top of your existing mattress providing support for your back as well as a protection for your mattress. Memory foam is perfect for firmness as well as comfort as the memory foam moulds to the shape of your body.

4. Check the warranty

A good mattress company will have a minimum 10 year FULL replacement of NON prorated warranty for your mattress. At Duvet and Pillow Warehouse we give our customers a 10 year warranty on our memory foam toppers as we are so confident about our products.

5. Adjustable beds are a great option

You may find that you are more comfortable sitting in a recliner chair than asleep in bed. If this is you it might be worth investing in an adjustable bed which will elevate your head and knees slightly to to relieve pressure on the lower back. If this option isn’t within your budget, you can also create the same desired affect by using bedding pillows. Duvet and Pillow Warehouse have a range of bedding pillows for you to choose from such as memory foam pillows or feather pillows.

Memory foam mattresses have crept onto the scene over the past few years, claiming they are the saviour of restless sleeps, but is it really true?

Well at Duvet and Pillow Warehouse we have come up with some pros and cons about both mattresses so you can make the decision all by yourself! :-)

Spring Mattress

The thought of springs doesn’t sound comfy to begin, but put it with a bit of material and you would probably assume you have a pretty comfy, bouncy bed.

A pressure point test from a leading spring mattress indicating pressure points. The results showed that spring mattresses don’t offer the correct pressure point relief needed for a good night’s sleep.

Traditional spring mattresses rely on a varied number of springs which push back against your body, all with the same force, making proper support impossible because our bodies do not push evenly. The lack of support on these pressure points lead to poor circulation, tossing and turning, aches and joint pain.

In fact, spring mattresses lose 16 per cent of their support in the first year alone.

Memory Foam Mattress

When you buy a good quality memory foam mattress you will find that your body weight will distribute evenly. This reduces pressure points substantially, up to 80 per cent, which only memory foam can provide.

Tossing and turning is greatly reduced with a memory foam mattress.

Spring Mattresses

Spring mattresses act as a shock absorber and reduce the wear and tear of a mattress. Coil gauges determine the firmness and support. The less coils there are the thicker the springs.

Memory Foam Mattresses

Vary, but generally go from firm to supple. As memory foam mattresses distribute the weight evenly, a good memory foam mattress should give you a firm feeling without compromising your back, hips and joints.

Many memory foam mattresses become more supple with body heat, providing a cradling support your body requires.

For more information about memory foam, and to find out how to reduce the cost by buying a memory foam mattress topper, visit Duvet and Pillow Warehouse today.

1. Determine how you sleep at night and how you set up your pillows before heading into the land of nod. This will give you a good idea of what type of support your neck and back needs while you sleep.

2. If you sleep on your side you might want long feathered pillowsto snuggle up to and one under your head that isn’t as fluffy to give you a little bit of support.

3. If you sleep on your stomach a flat pillow would suit you best to keep your back in alignment as well as offering just enough support for your neck.

4. If you sleep on your back you may like to snuggle up on a feathered pillow similar to a huge feather bed.

5. Search for fabulous discounts on the Internet. Duvet and Pillow Warehouse are offering up to 60 percent off some of their bedding pillows, including memory foam pillows and feathered pillows.

6. Do you vary your sleeping position? If you do, you may want to vary the types of pillow you have on your bed and choose which bedding pillows you use each and every night.

7. If you have recently had surgery or need extra support in bed, you many need a specific type of pillow that will conform to your body. The best pillow for this is a memory foam pillow which conforms to the shape of your neck and head giving you full support while you sleep.

8. The more pillows the merrier when it comes to pregnant woman. Women who are heavily pregnant need as much support as they can get when it comes to sleep and feathered pillows may be an option to consider.

9. If you suffer from back pain you may want to sleep on your back with a pillow under your knees or on your side with a bedding pillow between your knees.

10. If you suffer from a lot of allergies you can purchase special pillows which minimise your allergies to give you that perfect night’s sleep. Look out for hypoallergenic pillows or microfibre pillows on Duvet and Pillow Warehouse.
