The old fashioned cash stash under the bed is still as evident today as it ever has been! More and more of us are keeping large reserves of money hidden around the home according to a survey by Swinton, with the most popular hiding place being underneath the mattress.

A survey of 1400 Swinton home insurance customers revealed that:

• 28% of Britons have emergency money in a secret hiding place in the home

• 43% keep up to £100 in cash in the house for emergencies

• 9% have between £100 and £1000 hidden in their home

• 3% have over £1000 stashed away

• 55% report that the current uncertainty of the markets would make them more likely to want to keep their savings outside the banking system

• 15% of respondents even refused to reveal their hiding place in the survey due to security fears

Out of those who kept a hidden stash:

• 36% say it’s because they like to have a ready source of cash close to hand

• 34% say it’s because of fears of the worsening economic climate

• 12% report it as a protest against rising bank charges

• 11% say it’s because they are too lazy to put it in the bank

Different positions you sleep in will affect the amount of pressure that is put onto your joints, you need to take into consideration the position you mostly sleep in and if you will benefit from a memory foam mattress or a memory foam topper.

If you sleep on your side a lot, you place a heavy amount of pressure in your shoulder and hips, and if you sleep on your stomach you are adding pressure to your neck.

A visco-elastic pressure sensitive memory foam mattress will work the best for you and provide you with the best chance of reducing the overall pressure placed on the joints, this is done by contouring them and pushing against them as you lay on the mattress.

Latex is sometimes added to memory foam that will offer more spring against parts of your body such as the small of your back or yours sides, without losing the ability to contour and displace pressure points.

The duvet and pillow warehouse can help your achy joints by providing you all the information you need about why and how a memory foam mattress or a memory foam topper can help you,  and then advising you which would be most suitable.

Sleeping on the wrong mattress can cause a great deal of pain to the muscles and joints in your body without you even realising. A mattress is there to give you support and to reinforce poor sleeping posture, strained muscles and keep the spine in alignment, which if not supported can contribute to low back pain.

It is also important to consider a mattress that meets your individual preferences. You may need a mattress that supports your lower back or a mattress that is hypoallergenic to help your allergies.

Whatever your needs and requirements, we have come up with top 12 tips to buying the perfect mattress for you.

1. Research online before going shopping

There is a lot of information online which tells you different information about different types of mattresses and can often leave you in a pickle about where to go next. Make sure that when you are looking for information you visit trusted websites (like this blog!) or health websites such as Spine Health which can help you find reliable information before shopping for your mattress.

2. Speak to your doctor

If you suffer from a medical condition it may be a good idea to speak to your doctor before you buy your mattress. Doctors aren’t generally sleep experts but will have a good idea about what needs and requirements your medical condition needs to get the right comfort and support while you sleep.

3. Firm Mattresses aren’t always the best for your back

Think about how you sleep and what you need when it comes to a good nights sleep. People assume that a firm mattress is the way forward to improving posture, but every person is different and it is important to make sure that you buy a mattress to suit your needs and requirements.

Make sure you are aware there is a difference between firm support and firm feel. You want a firm support but a comfortable feel and comfortable is determined by what works for YOU!

You may like the idea of a memory foam mattress topper a more affordable version of a full memory foam mattress. The memory foam topper lies on top of your existing mattress providing support for your back as well as a protection for your mattress. Memory foam is perfect for firmness as well as comfort as the memory foam moulds to the shape of your body.

4. Check the warranty

A good mattress company will have a minimum 10 year FULL replacement of NON prorated warranty for your mattress. At Duvet and Pillow Warehouse we give our customers a 10 year warranty on our memory foam toppers as we are so confident about our products.

5. Adjustable beds are a great option

You may find that you are more comfortable sitting in a recliner chair than asleep in bed. If this is you it might be worth investing in an adjustable bed which will elevate your head and knees slightly to to relieve pressure on the lower back. If this option isn’t within your budget, you can also create the same desired affect by using bedding pillows. Duvet and Pillow Warehouse have a range of bedding pillows for you to choose from such as memory foam pillows or feather pillows.

As the weekend approaches, many of us will be looking forward to a nice lie in or suffering from a hang over in bed after a messy one the night before.

Well before the weekend starts, we have found some fab and funky bedding pillows which you would want scattered all over your bed!

Happy Sleeping!

Very Rock and Roll

These funky pillows are installed with an MP3 letting the rock and roll come out while you sleep!

If it says King then he must be a king, it is as simple as that! And who is going to argue with him!

Legs Eleven
Legs Eleven

We have to admit we were slightly disturbed when we saw this pillow, so we just had to show you as well! What the hell is this? If you went to a guy’s house and you saw he had one of these as a pillow you would definitely be using your legs to run out the door!

Safe and Secure in your own bed
Safe and Secure in your own bed

These pillows are a replica of a condom and are pretty funny. Just make sure they go the back of the wardrobe when your little bro or sister comes into your room, you don’t want them telling the whole family at a function that you have condoms all over your bed! Possibly won’t go down very well!

Memory foam mattresses have crept onto the scene over the past few years, claiming they are the saviour of restless sleeps, but is it really true?

Well at Duvet and Pillow Warehouse we have come up with some pros and cons about both mattresses so you can make the decision all by yourself! :-)

Spring Mattress

The thought of springs doesn’t sound comfy to begin, but put it with a bit of material and you would probably assume you have a pretty comfy, bouncy bed.

A pressure point test from a leading spring mattress indicating pressure points. The results showed that spring mattresses don’t offer the correct pressure point relief needed for a good night’s sleep.

Traditional spring mattresses rely on a varied number of springs which push back against your body, all with the same force, making proper support impossible because our bodies do not push evenly. The lack of support on these pressure points lead to poor circulation, tossing and turning, aches and joint pain.

In fact, spring mattresses lose 16 per cent of their support in the first year alone.

Memory Foam Mattress

When you buy a good quality memory foam mattress you will find that your body weight will distribute evenly. This reduces pressure points substantially, up to 80 per cent, which only memory foam can provide.

Tossing and turning is greatly reduced with a memory foam mattress.

Spring Mattresses

Spring mattresses act as a shock absorber and reduce the wear and tear of a mattress. Coil gauges determine the firmness and support. The less coils there are the thicker the springs.

Memory Foam Mattresses

Vary, but generally go from firm to supple. As memory foam mattresses distribute the weight evenly, a good memory foam mattress should give you a firm feeling without compromising your back, hips and joints.

Many memory foam mattresses become more supple with body heat, providing a cradling support your body requires.

Memory Foam is the perfect way to ensure you get a good night’s sleep. Most often, people tend to look for a memory foam mattress but they can be pretty pricey and so people opt for a cheaper mattress instead which doesn’t really do the trick.

Well now you are in luck as some clever soul developed a wonderful idea known as the memory foam mattress topper which simply sits on top of your existing mattress providing the same comfort and support as a memory foam mattress, just at a cheaper price.

And to make sure you are completely clued up about memory foam mattress toppers and how they can help you, we have found this demonstration video on YouTube about memory foam mattress toppers. Enjoy!

When you go on holiday or for a short break away, it can be a pretty of a let down/nightmare if your hotel room is an absolute shambles.

Picture the scenario: You have travelled hundreds of miles with a family filled car shouting “Are we there yet?” to arrive to a poxy caravan which “sleeps 8″ but in reality sleeps four size 2 people. Disaster!

Well to perk up your day and give you a taster of some of the bedroom treats out there, we have found some cool hotel bedrooms which won’t leave you running to customer services.

Experience the outdoors..without actually sleeping outdoors

Some of us love the outdoors and like the idea of camping out in the wild and getting back to nature…however some of us will never do it.

Some of us just can’t leave our memory foam mattress or feathered pillowsfor one night and would much prefer to be shacked up in a 5 * hotel than a measly tent in the forest.

However, Austrian designer Andreas Strauss built these pipe-like tent featuring either a single, double bed with a light, storage space, power, a woolly blanket and a light cotton sleeping bag. Not exactly 5 * but definitely better than a tent.

Freeze Yourself To Sleep

When you think of bedtime you don’t usually think ‘Oh yes I cannot wait to get into my ‘ice cold’ bed with lovely ice cubes all around me’.

If you do not only are your WEIRD, you also need to think about visiting the Igloo Hotel.

We can imagine this would be fun for one night (or one hour) but I can’t really say that it would be something I would adopt in my own room. Each to there own I guess.

Cold as Ice...Sorry!

Cold as Ice...Sorry!

Capsule Bedrooms

Well we can sort of forgive igloo hotels and other random styles as to be honest it is rather a cool idea and can be a bit of a novelty, but this idea is just ridiculous.

I say this because who in their right mind would check into a capsule for a good nights sleep is beyond me. Just choose a cheaper hotel if you are saving on cost don’t subject yourself to a small cabin.

Capsule Rooms...Spacious!

memory-foam-bras

Memory foam is generally associated with bedding products such as memory foam mattresses or memory foam mattress toppers, but in fact it is now being used for an entirely different product.

With many thanks to the extraordinary works of Slovenian scientists, memory foam is being cleverly used to enhance the chests of women around the world.

Memory foam is a heat-sensitive material which moulds to the shape of the human body when in contact. The clever material is now being used to create the perfect fit for those who wear bras and lingerie company Dalila are taking the foam on board.

Not only will the new memory foam bra create the perfect fit there is also a more surprising and unplanned quality which the new bra will offer.

To put the new clever quality into practice we have introduced a new scenario.

If a woman is out on a night out and becomes excited/interested by the prospect of another person, her body temperature will rise and as a result her cleavage will as well!

This rise in ‘interest has been labelled the ‘alert system’ by the Irish Independent newspaper.

Memory foam is growing in popularity each and every week, with Mirriam-Webster dictionary adding the term the term to the English language in recent weeks. ADNFCR-1744-ID-19270078-ADNFCR
