  • Getting more wrinkles on one side of your face? It’s caused by the way you sleep

Sleeping on your side is one of the most common ways for people to sleep, but if you regularly sleep on the same side it can have some unwelcome effects.

This sleeping position makes you more likely to get wrinkles on the side of the face you lie on as pressure is put on your face as it is creased on the pillow. Sleeping face down can also have negative effects, as this is more likely to make you develop a furrowed brow.

Ensuring that you alternate the side you sleep on can help you prevent developing deeper wrinkles on one side of your face, or if you’re very concerned about your wrinkles, sleeping on your back is the best option.

Many people choose to sleep in certain positions if their bed is starting to get worn out and uncomfortable, so investing in mattress toppers can help you ensure your whole bed is comfy so you’re more inclined to sleep in different positions.

It is also thought that sleeping with too many pillows can make you more likely to develop a double chin, so if you’re thinking of cutting down on the number of pillows you use, make sure you’re still comfortable by investing in high quality bedding such as silk pillowcases and 100% Egyptian cotton sheets.

Whatever bedding you’re considering investing in, ensure that you’re getting the best quality at the best prices by browsing the great range available from us here at Duvet and Pillow Warehouse.

  • Bad habits at bedtime could cause sleeping problems

It’s not just children that can have bad bedtime habits, it’s adults as well according to research and this can lead to sleep problems.

Having consistency at bedtime can help you get a better night’s sleep to ensure that you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to face the day.

Caffeine, nicotine and alcohol can all have major effects on our sleep and should be avoided in the hours before you go to sleep. Caffeine will either prevent someone from falling asleep, or stop you from reaching all the different periods of sleep. Each period of sleep has a different effect on the body, so missing out one will leave you feeling groggy in the morning. Nicotine works in the same way as caffeine.

Although alcohol can make you sleepy at first, you will usually wake up about 4 hours after you’ve nodded off, meaning your sleep is also interrupted. Eating and drinking to close to bedtime can also affect your sleep.

The experts say that having the right bedroom environment is also vital to ensure we sleep well. Your bedroom should be dark and of a comfortable temperature, and you should make sure you choose comfortable bedding.

You should make sure you choose bedding which suits you, whether you prefer cotton or silk pillowcases, goose feather or microfibre duvets or a firm or soft mattress to ensure you get the best possible sleep. A comfortable mattress is also a must, but if you can’t afford to replace yours, a mattress topper could be the ideal solution.

At Duvet and Pillow Warehouse, we stock a wide range of bedding options so you can get make your bed comfortable and get a perfect night’s sleep so you wake up well rested.

  • Using electronics in bed can cause sleep and relationship problems

A new study has found that more and more people in the UK are unable to switch off from technology and are using their laptops in bed.

Research from Ikea revealed that Londoners are the worst offenders, with 22% of them admitting to using their laptop whilst they’re in bed.

Using technological equipment in bed can cause sleep problems, especially with the light from laptops and iPads being very disruptive to sleep.

Phyllis Zee, neuroscience professor at Northwestern University in Chicago, said: “It could affect your circadian rhythm - the clock in your brain that determines when you sleep and when you wake up.”

An overdependence on technology and being unable to put down your smartphone or laptop whilst in bed can also have a negative impact on your relationship with your other half, warns Christine Northam, a counsellor with Relate.

She said: “Technology is a major distraction and can lead others to think you’re avoiding them.

“We need to make time for talking face to face. When you’re in bed it’s the perfect time to turn off the tech and tune into your relationship.”

Buying new bedding may make sleep more appealing to technology addicts and could help them sleep better and avoid distractions. Investing in mattress toppers to make your bed more comfortable or silk pillowcases to allow you to relax and wind down from Duvet and Pillowcase Warehouse may help tech lovers relax and be able to switch off from their devices to ensure they get interrupted sleep and not get in trouble from their other half!
