A thrown pillow landed an Edgwater resident in jail on a charge of battery on a law enforcement officer, police said.
Erik John Batty, 39, was arrested after an officer responding to a disturbance call was on the receiving end of a hurled pillow he suspected as being a possible biohazard.
Batty’s father, George Batty, called the police after his son became combative when he went to check on him Sunday afternoon at the Driftwood Mobile Home Park on South Ridgewood Avenue.
When Edgewater Officer, Miles Lawler tried to speak to Erik Batty, he started yelling at the officer, Lawler said. After ordering Lawler out of his residence, Erik Batty is accused of throwing the pillow, which the officer was able to deflect.
Due to Erik Batty having numerous diseases, Lawler suspected the pillow miht contain biohazards, so he arrested the man, a report states.
Erik Batty was being held Monday at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $1,500 bail.
