If you suffer from asthma, eczema and rhinitis, the common trigger is the house mite dust allergen.  You may not be able to see them but house mites can be found in your mattresses, pillows, carpets, bedding, furniture, clothing and anywhere else they can feed on dead flakes of human skin.

And duvets and bedding pillows are a house mite’s haven, as they thrive of dark humid areas where there is a ready supply of food.

It is almost impossible to completely eliminate the mites from your home, however they can be killed and their allergen destroyed if you wash your bedding at 60°C and above.

At Duvet and Pillow Warehouse we recommend the following;

Micro Fibre pillows and bedding are synthetic filled and have the ability to be washed at 60°C, compressing well into a domestic washing machine.

Both the micro fibre pillows and bedding can be washed time and time again and will remain hypoallergenic without the lost of comfort.

Another good way to beat those allergies would be to invest in hollow fibre pillows and bedding. Polyester –filled, there are no mites in hollow fibre pillows and it is health risk free making it perfect for people who suffer with allergies.

Hollow fibre pillows may be dressed in bed linen only, which protects it from the dirt. The pillow may also be washed in temperatures of up to 60°C.

We all love our pets but we don’t love them so much when they make a mess around the house!

We at Duvet and Pillow Warehouse have searched the web to find our fave pets who have had their own fight with a feather pillows making it Feather vs. our Fluffy friends!

Now this is really just asking for trouble in my opinion!

What a great surprise to come home too!

Dog attempts to do a bit of housework and fails!

Cleaning your feathered pillows can often be a chore so make sure that you know exactly what you are doing and that you don’t destroy the luxury quality that feathered pillows can bring.

Remove pillowcases

Pillows should never be washed in their cases. Remove them from the very beginning and wash them separately. Usually most can be washed in the washing machine but check the care instructions before you do.

The best way to wash feather pillows is on a delicate cycle. If you wash them on a normal cycle it can clump the down and may be irreparable. Make sure that you keep the machine balanced by having the same amount of pillows on each side of the washing barrel. Do not wash any other items in the same cycle.

Use an extra rinse cycle. The nature of the feathers hold onto the chemicals used in laundry soaps so an extra rinse cycle will make sure they are soap free when finished.

A great idea is to dry them in the tumbler with a couple of tennis balls! Throwing a few CLEAN tennis balls into the dryer alongside your feather pillows can boost the fluffing process. Make sure that your tennis balls are clean and not right out of the can. Use a gentle dry cycle and stop every so often to remove the pillows and manually fluff them to separate them from clumps which may have formed.

To get that fresh air smell place them out in the sun. Feathered pillows can often smell musty so putting them out in direct sunlight for one or two hours can make them smell summer fresh. Make sure that where you lie them is clean and free from dust and dirt.

When looking to purchase a memory foam mattress the duvet and pillow warehouse advise that you look for a good ILD rating. The ILD rating on memory foam mattresses means the actual firmness of the mattresses that is determined through tests that are carried out on the visco – elastic material that is used in the memory foam mattresses.

The firmness of a mattress is an issue for people who experience back problems and other joint problems that result in pain. You need to be sure that you get the right kind of memory foam mattress with the density and firmness that you need for you specific needs.

If the company you are buying your memory foam mattress from offers free trials, be sure to take advantage of this and try out as many as you can before you buy so you can be sure you choose the right one.

The cradling effect of the memory foam mattress will relieve pressure in any injured areas of the body, and as well as this the benefits of memory foam providing spinal alignment have been proven – as well as giving a better quality nights sleep! So contact the duvet and pillow warehouse for your high quality memory foam mattress that will stand the test of time for many years!

Do Memory Foam Mattress Topper Pads Really Work?

Memory foam mattress toppers are known to be the most comfortable pads of all and can offer pressure relief that no other material can approach.

Memory foam mattress toppers work more routinely for chronic pain, such as people with arthritis and fibromyalgia.

The memory foam topper works equally as well for the ordinary person who just wakes up with aches and pains by relieving pressure points.

What Sort of Mattress Does the Memory Foam Mattress Topper Pad Work Best With?

Memory foam mattress pads work best at making hard mattresses more comfortable. They won’t fix a mattress that is overly soft or has already got dips in it but can be great if your mattress is a little too hard and you want a bit more comfort.

Quality of the Memory Foam Mattress Topper Pad

A good quality memory foam topper will be from 4 lb and up in density.

Do I Need to Buy the Topper With a Cover?

Most people who own a memory foam mattress pad find that it works perfectly if they put it under their exisiting quilted mattress pad. However, many people often prefer to put a mattress protector cover on top of the topper to protect the bed from spills or for allergy reasons.

At Duvet and Pillow Warehouse the team have put together a wide range of mattress toppers that are suited to your needs and requirements. They can also offer hypoallergenic products which can help you get a good nights sleep and beat your allergies.

There are a wide range of mattress toppers on the market for you to choose from and it can often be difficult to find the right one to suit your needs and requirements.

We at Duvet and Pillow Warehouse have put together all the information you need to help you learn all there is to know about mattress toppers.

Cotton Mattress Pads

Pure cotton mattress covers or pads are very thin, quilted and easily washable. Mattress protectors can extend the life of a mattress, protecting it from bodily fluids. They are usually fitted with an elastic edging which fits neatly around your upper side of your mattress. Cotton is also hypoallergenic and allows you to ‘breathe.’

Lambswool mattress pads

A lambswool mattress pad is like sleeping with a very soft sheepskin rug under your sheet. Looking at a lambswool mattress pad at first does not sound or look very appealing but they are pure luxury and ad to the softness of your mattress. They have all the qualities of wool but do not offer support to the back and tend to matt down over time.

With a steam clean a lambswool mattress can spring back into shape and provide comfort for you all year through.

 Natural Latex Mattress Pads

Natural latex comes from a rubber tree and is a very durable cushion-like material which also has the advantage of providing a cushion for aching joints or back.

However, a natural latex mattress pad of any quality can cost just as much as a cheaper mattress which may make you question their value particularly in the current recession.

Memory Foam Mattress Pads

A more affordable and just as comfortable way of getting the perfect nights sleep is to purchase a memory foam topper.

Constructed out of foam they are lightweight and fit neatly onto the top of your mattress.

They conform to the shape of your body and provide support to your joints and muscles while you sleep.

Mattress toppers have become ever so popular in recent years and there is a very good reason for it.

Research has shown that they increase our sleep quality as well as our comfort while we sleep.

However, with so much jargon flying around mattresses, like mattress topper, mattress pad and mattress protector, it is difficult for a prospective customer to know just  what to look for.

So what is the difference between a mattress topper and a mattress pad?

Generally the terms are interchangeable and can often mean the same product. A mattress topper is designed to enhance the comfort level of the mattress by placing an extra softer layer or pad on top of existing and probably all too hard mattresses.

On the other hand however, a mattress pad can refer both to a mattress topper but also a thinner type of pad most often made out of cotton and there to protect your mattress for hygienic reasons. These types of pads are also called mattress protectors which can confuse a customer even more.

So what type of mattress toppers exist?

The most popular type of toppers are memory foam toppers, synthetic or natural latex. We at Duvet and Pillow Warehouse prefer a memory foam mattress topper as it conforms to the shape of your body while you sleep giving you that comfortable and relaxing sleep while supporting all your muscles and joints in your body.

What are the benefits of a mattress topper?

A good quality mattress topper can really enhance the quality of your sleep. People who suffer from muscle and joint pain or elderly people can really benefit from the soft memory foam which conforms to your body supporting all your joints leaving you to feel delightfully luxurious.

A mattress topper can also extend the life of your mattress by protecting it from general wear and tear.
