  • Making Sure Your Allergies Stay Undercover: Hypo Allergenic Pillows

At Duvet and Pillow Warehouse we appreciate that there is a wide range of bedding pillows for you to choose from and for anyone with allergies, making the wrong choice may have a big impact on your health and bank balance.

If you suffer from asthma, eczema and rhinitis, the common trigger is the house mite dust allergen.  You may not be able to see them but house mites can be found in your mattresses, pillows, carpets, bedding, furniture, clothing and anywhere else they can feed on dead flakes of human skin.

And duvets and bedding pillows are a house mite’s haven, as they thrive of dark humid areas where there is a ready supply of food.

It is almost impossible to completely eliminate the mites from your home, however they can be killed and their allergen destroyed if you wash your bedding at 60°C and above.

At Duvet and Pillow Warehouse we recommend the following:

Micro Fibre pillows and bedding are synthetic filled and have the ability to be washed at 60°C, compressing well into a domestic washing machine.

Both the micro fibre pillows and bedding can be washed time and time again and will remain hypoallergenic without the lost of comfort.

Another good way to beat those allergies would be to invest in hollow fibre pillows and bedding. Polyester –filled, there are no mites in hollow fibre pillows and it is health risk free making it perfect for people who suffer with allergies.

Hollow fibre pillows may be dressed in bed linen only, which protects it from the dirt. The pillow may also be washed in temperatures of up to 60°C.

  • How A Memory Foam Mattress Works

A memory foam mattress can provide you with a good nights sleep as well as working wonders for your back, neck and overall posture. A memory foam mattress is made from a material called polyurethane along with other chemicals that are added to increase its viscosity level – increasing a viscosity level will then increase the density of the mattress.

A memory foam mattress works off the heat of the body, and the overall density of the mattress will depend upon the chemicals that have been used to produce the mattress, usually the memory foam mattress will be firmer in cool temperatures and softer when it is warm.

If the memory foam mattress has a high density it will react with body heat, this results in the mattress molding to the shape of a warm body within only a few minutes. A memory foam mattress that has a lower density will be pressure sensitive and this means it will mould to the shape of a body more quickly.

A demonstration is usually given which will easily explain the properties of the memory foam mattress and exactly how it will perform, this is simply a hand being pressed into the foam and then removed to show an impression left in the foam.

Please contact duvet and pillow warehouse for any further information regarding the best memory foam mattresses to go for depending upon your needs.

  • Memory Foam Mattresses And Their Supportive Qualities

Memory foam mattresses work by being denser than a normal foam mattress, when material is denser it is always heavier and more supportive, which is why the memory foam mattresses are perfect for people with back and neck problems.

The way memory foam does this is through a open cell structure which reacts with your body heat and weight, it will then mould to your body which will result in relieving pressure points and sore joints.

The memory foam mattress is the perfect answer to most people’s problems when it comes to having both a comfy and supportive mattress, as it gives the comfort of a soft mattress but the support of a firm one. They are also more expensive but will last longer than a traditional mattress as they are stronger and more resistant to parasites found in bedding like dust mites.

The duvet and pillow warehouse has a large number of memory foam mattresses and memory foam mattress toppers and will be able to advise you on which will be the best for your specific needs and the most cost effective way of improving your bed and your comfort levels when you sleep. Please do not hesitate to contact us regarding any enquiries of questions you have about our products.

  • How Does Memory Foam Have ‘Memory’?

The process of making a memory foam mattress starts with using a piece of polyurethane foam material, this is the foam which is used as the basis of the mattress, from this particular types of chemicals are added to the foam, each chemical will have a different effect on the foam, increasing the weight and adding density to the foam.

From adding these chemicals, a new type of foam is then created; this foam is non-toxic and visco-elastic. Throughout the process of creating the memory foam there are many elements that will determine the type of memory foam that will be achieved at the end.

A material can only be visco-elastic it has to be sensitive to temperature, both hot and cold, and be able to rebound quickly to its original shape.

Memory foam is put into grades before the process of adding chemicals begins, these grades are determined upon the weight – the weight of foam depends upon the amount of chemicals used, the more chemicals the higher density and more visco-elastic it will be.

Another factor determining the grading is the ILD rating (Indentation Load Deflection), this rating will tell you how hard or soft the material is. Resilience and tensile are also tests took out on the foam, the resilience will measure the spring in the foam and the tensile is how much the foam can be stretched.
